Falsettos is a fast-paced musical about love, about family, about making life choices, about personal identity, and about growing up. Set in the late 70s through the early 80s, it focuses on a colorful if not neurotic group of people who combine to form a “modern” family. As the comedy begins, the family is in disarray, with new relationships that are changing the home landscape for Jason, a sharp pre-teen who doesn’t always get the emotional support he needs. Jason’s impending bar-mitzvah becomes a central point of contention between him and his parents. Strong feelings threaten to ruin this celebration, but in the end the family responds with wisdom and compassion. Falsettos cleverly reweaves the unraveling threads of this family’s chaos in a musical contemplation that inspires us and moves us to appreciate the love we have. “Love can tell a million stories.”
