Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly man who despises Christmas. Scrooge started a business with Jacob Marley, who was very similar to Scrooge, but since Marley died Scrooge runs the business alone, treating one of his staff members, Bob Cratchit, very poorly. One night Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley, who warns Scrooge that if he does not become kinder he will have an awful fate after death. Marley tells Scrooge that in the coming nights he will be visited by three more ghosts. Initially Scrooge fails to take the warning seriously but as the ghostly visits become more terrifying, Scrooge begins to realize that he must change his ways. By the end of the story Scrooge has completely transformed, having learnt the importance of charity, friendship and generosity. Christmas is now his favorite time of the year and he does all he can to help Bob Cratchit and his family. An Original, Faithful, Immersive Adaptation by Marc Ciaraldi This production strips away the traditional proscenium arch to plunge you directly into the heart of Charles Dickens’ timeless ghost story. By blending a deeply faithful script with the soaring architecture of a sacred space, the production transforms the church into a living canvas. The natural acoustics, vaulted ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows serve as the literal backdrop for Scrooge's journey, making the supernatural visitations feel terrifyingly intimate and profoundly spiritual. What Makes This Adaptation Unique Immersive staging: The action unfolds all around you. Audiences sit among the residents of London, hearing the rustle of period costumes and feeling the chill of Marley's chains. Faithful storytelling: The adaptation preserves Dickens’ original, rich vocabulary and his fierce social commentary on poverty and greed, honoring the text's authentic 1843 roots. Site-specific atmosphere: The historic church environment naturally elevates the story's themes of redemption and resurrection, utilizing candlelight and shadows to create a hauntingly beautiful landscape. Choral landscapes: A live ensemble weaves traditional Victorian carols seamlessly into the narrative, serving as both the musical heartbeat and the spectral voices guiding Scrooge through his past, present, and future. Step into Victorian London this holiday season with A Christmas Carol , an original immersive adaptation by QTC's Artistic Director, uniquely brought to life inside a stunning, historic church.
