The Saturday MatineeFeaturing: Teams from a Hat! The Saturday Matinee is a monthly improv comedy show featuring your favorite local performers and comedy at a reasonable hour. Come catch a show before dinner and be home in your favorite PJs by bedtime! Each Matinee features long form improv comedy from two ensembles: one preexisting Richmond improv team and one Team from a Hat, made up of a selection of improvisers chosen at random at the previous month’s show. What is long form improv, you ask? Good question! It is theater that is entirely made up on the spot. To your eyes, it will feel like a short play or sketch show. You may even wonder, at times, if the performers are using ideas they came up with beforehand and practiced together. But trust us, none of it is pre-planned. Come witness the magic. Making Liz Jealous is an improv comedy duo made up of veteran improvisers Connor Doyle and Anthony Brazeau. Between them, they have decades of experience making audiences laugh at venues across the country. While their primary goal is to make their friend and former teammate Liz envious by performing together, they are also extremely dedicated to bringing you a hilarious and surprising show! Team from a Hat – Rules for Entry· Are you an improviser who would like to be on next month’s Team from a Hat? Signing up is easy! All you have to do is come to the Saturday Matinee and throw your name in the Hat. At the end of the show, we will draw eight names to join forces and become next month’s Team from a Hat.· To sign up for a Team from a Hat, you must have completed the basic improv curriculum at any comedy theater. For example, if you trained at Coalition, you must have completed the classes through level 401. No other experience is required.· Each Team from a Hat is provided a dedicated coach for the month and will have three rehearsals together leading up to that month’s show. Rehearsals will be on Mondays at 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.· OCTOBER INFO: The next show will be October 10. Team from a Hat rehearsals will be September 21, September 28, and October 5.
