Les Miserables

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre will close its Centennial Season with an epic tale of passion and redemption in the throes of revolution. Les Misérables is one of the world’s longest running musicals — a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time. Set in 19th Century France, this modern classic is as groundbreaking today as it was when it first premiered in London in 1985. “This show isn’t about individuals, or even the ensemble, so much as about how actors and music and staging meld with each other and with the soul of its source… the company need simply march forward to summon up Hugo’s unflagging faith in tomorrow’s better world.” – New York Times Rated: PG-13 intense thematic elements like prostitution, suicide, war violence, coarse language, and emotionally disturbing scenes of poverty, abuse, and mass casualties Les Misérables is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
